This year, President Trump has canceled the traditional White House holiday party for the media, according to Fox News.
“The White House Christmas press party was not put on the holiday schedule this year,” a White House official told The Hill.
“However, we have accommodated members of the media and their families who have asked to see the holiday decorations by arranging White House Open House Tours for them.”
Instead of attending the party, selected journalists were given tickets for private White House tours.
A decades-old tradition—the White House party for the media that was attended by invitation-only has morphed into the tours instead.
“The annual Christmas-season gathering was a significant perk for those covering the White House, as well as other Washington reporters, anchors, and commentators, and New York media executives would regularly fly in for the occasion. At its peak, the invitation-only soirees grew so large that there were two back-to-back events, one for broadcast outlets and one for print organizations.
Journalists who attended the events, which featured a catered buffet of lamb chops, crab claws, and elaborate desserts, got to roam the decorated mansion with a spouse or other family member, a friend or a colleague, adding to the invitation’s allure.” Fox News reported.
The president has repeatedly clashed with liberal lef- wing media, especially CNN, calling them the “fake news” media and the “enemy of the people.” In 2017, CNN boycotted the party, citing the president’s “continued attacks” on journalists.
In October, CNN refused to air president Trump campaign ad on Biden/Ukraine as the outlet claimed, “It does not meet our advertising standards.”
Campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh for President Trump responded: “Everything in that ad is factually accurate. Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion from Ukraine if they did not fire the prosecutor looking into the company Hunter Biden worked for. It’s a fact.”
“CNN spends all day protecting Joe Biden in their programming, so it’s not surprising that they’re shielding him from truthful advertising too, and then talking to other media outlets about it. Our ad is entirely accurate and was reviewed by counsel, and CNN wouldn’t even describe to us what they found objectionable. This isn’t a cable news channel anymore, it’s a Democrat public relations firm,” said Murtaugh.
